PICTON MARINA REDEVELOPMENT GETS THUMBS UP 24 December, 2009 Port Marlborough’s new $2 million redevelopment at Picton marina has received high praise from boaties and locals alike. Completed on schedule and on budget the project has seen the old wooden fixed wharf structures on the western side of the marina replaced with state of the art floating concrete pontoons, providing 41 spacious and considerably more user-friendly berths for marina customers. The new berths were quickly taken up by Picton berth-holders and are now fully tenanted.
Port engineer Jonathan Duffy said that the new facilities will incorporate security gates with card access and security cameras at the gate entrance, which are to be installed during January, along with finishing touches to the balustrade and boardwalk. The redevelopment features substantial landscaping including construction of a boardwalk immediately adjacent to the new berths and creation of an attractive public picnic area under the Coathanger Bridge. |
