MILESTONE FOR KAIPUPU POINT MAINLAND ISLAND

The Kaipupu Point Mainland Island came another step closer with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and management agreements between Port Marlborough, the Department of Conservation and the Kaipupu Point Mainland Island Society.

Kaipupu Point is the peninsular that separates Picton Harbour from Shakespeare Bay. The area encompasses approximately 40 ha, part of which is scenic reserve administered by DOC and the remainder belongs to Port Marlborough.

The port company is delighted to support this community conservation initiative, which will grow to be a wonderful asset for the Marlborough community.

It is envisaged that the area will be fenced with predator-proof fencing, freed of plant and animal pests and public access encouraged via a jetty and circular walking track – providing visitors with a glimpse of how this environment may have looked 100 years ago before the bush was destroyed.
