Port Marlborough in the Community

Port Marlborough maintains a strong relationship with its local communities; supporting a diverse range of community projects and organisations through sponsorship.

The company’s primary sponsorship projects currently include:

The Picton Volunteer Fire Service
The sponsorship we provide to the Picton Volunteer Fire Service has helped maintain and run their support vehicle, which is used on fire calls. The funding has also allowed crews to attend the Devonport Naval Base for a week of extensive training on fire and rescue onboard simulated ships.

The Kaipupu Mainland Island Incorporated Society
Port Marlborough is a major sponsor of the Kaipupu Mainland Island Society Incorporated. We have signed over our land on the peninsula, which constitutes one third of the “reserve”,  (the remaining two thirds has been provided by DOC), provided seed funds, and on-going administrative resources. We continue to work with the Society to achieve their objective to create a predator-free sanctuary for endangered native species close to the Picton township.

Queen Charlotte College
We are pleased to support Queen Charlotte College in its innovative approach to education.
The college is the first in New Zealand to offer an Aquaculture Academy which is an exciting arm of the school. With the dedication and leadership of current principal, Tom Parsons, the college is going from strength to strength, offering Picton students a broad and balanced education, and many opportunities in a positive and supportive environment.

New Years Eve Picton Fireworks Celebration
In conjunction with the Interislander, Port Marlborough sponsors an annual New Years Eve fireworks celebration on the Picton foreshore for the enjoyment of the local community.

Marlborough Coastguard
Port Marlborough provides berth facilities and resources to assist Coastguard Marlborough - the local maritime search and rescue service manned by dedicated volunteers.

Picton St John
We have provided sponsorship funds to enable the local St John service to purchase equipment for its seven operational volunteers.

In addition to the above we also provide support for cultural and sporting events in the local community.

Port Marlborough Sponsorship Criteria and Applications Policy

Port Marlborough receives requests each week for sponsorship or donations. While there are many commendable projects, unfortunately  we are simply not in a position to support each request for funding or resources.

To assist us to assess sponsorship applications, we have established standard criteria that must be met before we can consider any form of support.

In considering a sponsorship proposal we look for:

  • An activity or profile which impacts on people living within our region (Picton, Waikawa, Havelock, Sounds, Blenheim)
  • A community based project or support opportunity which will benefit the wider community
  • A wide appeal to as many sectors of the public as possible
  • Relevancy to our customers, market, or services
  • Sponsorships should portray innovation, quality and excellence in their particular area
  • Promotional opportunities for Port Marlborough through the sponsorship venture, which we generally expect should equal or exceed the amount of exposure obtained through traditional advertising options

If you wish to apply for sponsorship, please indicate whether your organisation is registered for GST, and if so, please include your GST number.

If your request is successful we require you to provide a GST Invoice before your sponsorship/donation will be processed.

We require you to forward a bank deposit slip in the name of the organisation that is making the request for funding. Our preferred method of payment is direct debit to your nominated bank account.
